Getting on the front page of digg

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 12:52 pm

Getting on the front page of Digg is a huge accomplishment for any web marketer to get yourself on the front page.

But this web marketer and SEO has done that: Here’s the link on digg
See us on the front page of Digg’s political

This is obviously a screen capture of two days ago, but we’re still on the top page of Digg’s Political page (look for “US President”)
It’s truly a first for my and many of my friends that have been doing this for a while.

How well did we do. How’s 17,000 unique visitors the first page, and 41,000 on the next day. (the our stats)

Our stats on Wednesday morning

Did we get rich because of it (well we did have ads on it)… Well… Let’s just say I can pay my cell phone bill with it, but not my car this month with it.

How did we do it?

  • Well first it was a great idea.
  • Great design (looks good, but more importantly was easy to see, everything important was above the fold)
  • Advertisement is PART of the design (not an afterthough)
  • Posted it on digg in the morning (although it didn’t really blow up until after 6pm)
  • The Title on the Digg article had the word “DIGG”, and included the word “Ron Paul” and other keywords that are often searched on digg for.
  • Blind luck (this may have been the best advice ;-)

Now let’s see if we can do this again!?!?!

Any great ideas?

Everyone can make one

Video editing is the new frontier for any kind of advertisement, and even grass room campaign.
Here’s a very professional video made by Citron for their newest car and what you can see, some impressive copies by either just funny individuals or by college students doing some amazing work

The Original By Citron:

Yugo

And the parody from the old Citron:

And just a completely separate version completely made by college students (copying no one)

Who cares about the Poor. We have to help the rich!

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 3:22 pm

It’s amazing how everyone that has done something wrong tries to blame someone else for it, or has a way to explain how someone else has the RESPONSIBILITY to help them out, or bail them out.

(Also I love how cheap video editing, youtube free hosting, and easy access to tv video can make a wonderful video.)

I love Jim Cramer but this video makes some good point!

Let’s bail out the people stuck with mortgages they can’t pay and let the rich people find other things to sell to get back their money.

$3/day in US it’s a coffee in Africa it’s a good living!

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 1:41 pm

To me it’s truly amazing the different amount of money people make through-out the world.

Oh… don’t get me wrong. I completely understand the concept that if all your food, and housing cost you close to that amount you can make less and live.

And they sound like they’re pleased with their situation.

So should I feel good or bad that as an SEO Beginner I make the same amount of money with this website as these VERY hard working people in africa?

Profiting from Tragic Changes in the Real World.

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 5:17 pm

Everyone knows of the people you see in the news trying to take advantage of a horrible situation, like a hurricane or even man made disaster.

Well there’s also people that will profit but because they’re bringing something useful to the situation (like a manufacturer creating better equipment for the emergency force that helped in the aftermath of that disaster)

Situations where the right person did the correct thing, and profited with it, and maybe has many people thank them for it.

That’s what’s happening over at Gruups.com (my most profitable website)

Changes in how T-Mobile wants you to setup your Internet on your cell (or as some have put it, how they’re blocking how you useĀ theĀ internet you are using) has increased traffic to one of the informational pages I have there about T-Mobile’s Internet Settings.

More people are now searching for the information which I keep there, and that means more people happen (by mistake or otherwise) to click on ADs (which sorry to tell you… is the reason why the page is there in the first place ;-) )

It’s important then to always keep ontop of your SEO work to make sure the keywords you’d like to rank higher on are coming right.

It’s a never ending job.

And you thought you just work an hour a week and next thing you know you’re the next “plentyOfFish.com”, eh? Guess again.

In more proof of how the world is changing here is an example of what 1,500 prisoners from the Philippines do over a lazy sunday afternoon:

YouTube as Advertisement

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 11:35 pm

As Google changes to become the dominant search engine (now having 67% of the eyeballs) it’s important to understand how it’s changing.

One of the changes it’s doing is mixing in other media more.

You might find that a search term for which you use to do well in now include links to google’s Base, or Google Images, or even Google Video.

This fellow blog entry talks about how he’s now listing well for Google Images
Here is a blog entry about “google image spamming”

But my personal best is more of a viral marketing which might also work with these new SEO changes:
Imagine putting your domain name at the end of a video like these two:

It’s hard making money Online

Filed under: SEO & Web Marketing — Damian Montero @ 9:57 pm

This blog is all about my work getting Gruups.com and DemocracyCalls.com online and making money.

And let me tell you… it’s hard work.

I started down this past while working for the company that created and runs the music section of CircuitCity.com
There I met my good friend Richard Carroll and he showed me some of the work he had done on making “Passive Income” and I felt it was time for me to use my skills as a web designer for the good of my family (not just all the people that pay me)

Simple enough. What makes money? Well Blogs were happening, but I didn’t feel I could make any money on it. I feel Blogs work as money makers if you’re already famous. There’s no examples out there of blogs of people that aren’t famous making lots of money. So I didn’t feel like just typing random thoughts would make money.

Then I realized there was something I could write about that people would be interested in: Cell Phone Internet.

I had internet on my Nokia and enjoyed the few websites that I could actually see properly. And of course the few websites built specifically for your phone like the ones for hotmail (mobile.hotmail.com)

I got new fancy phone thinking it would fix the issue with the limited websites issue, and then looked at my plan and realized that my provider had different rates for Internet on your phone, and internet on your laptop (or even Fancy pda phone)

So I started to look at what was the difference. What I had to do with my phone to get the cheaper “PHONE” internet, and if it was slower, worst or even worked.

Like most of the complicated things you think should be easy there’s no one website out there that shows you how.

One will tell you what to do but only with this one phone that no one has. The other seemed to have the phone you wanted, but seem to have conflicting information which made no sense. The other one showed you what to do with your phone, but it was for another carrier.

I put together a little (like 10 pages) article on “How to get Internet on your Phone” and then did the only thing I knew at the time to get traffic to it… I posted it on Digg.

It worked I got traffic and since I had already learned about Adsense I got a couple of cents for my work.
(Adsense is the Google service to place ADs on YOUR site and pay you 80% of what they make)

It worked and I said to myself “If I can just have it pay for it’s own domain name cost ($6), then I’m good.”
then “If I can pay for the hosting ($4/month) then I’ll be good”

Now I’d like to pay for my mortgage… ;-) Actually It’s at about $40-$50/month income.

It’s respectable but it’s not anything you would be impressed at while reading this blog…but heck. I already got you to finish the article ;-)
